Each year on April 17th, the entire medical community world celebrates World Hemophilia Day. It was first celebrated in 1989. The initiative to hold this international day belongs to two well-known international organizations: The World Health Organization and the World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH). This date for Hemophilia Day was not chosen by the organizers by chance: it is a tribute to the Frank Schneibel, the founder of the World Federation of Hemophilia, who was born on this day. “World Hemophilia Day,” as conceived by the World Health Organization and the World Federation of Hemophilia, is intended to attract the attention of the world community, politicians, health officials and ordinary medical personnel to the problems that patients with hemophilia face every day and increase their awareness of this hereditary disease associated with a violation of the blood clotting process.
In this regard, on April 17th, 2021, a scientific and practical conference dedicated to World Hemophilia Day was held in the hall of the Radisson Blu Hotel complex (Yerevan). The event was attended by the Minister of Health of the Republic of Armenia Anahit Avanesyan, the Head of European programs of the World Federation of Hemophilia Karine Kocharyan as well. Declan Noon, President of the European Hemophilia Consortium, addressed the audience with a video message. Representatives of Israel, Ukraine and Georgia also spoke at the conference online via an organized teleconference.
Leading hematologists and hemostasiologists from different countries presented modern aspects of the diagnosis and treatment of hemophilia and coagulopathies. The students from “Mkhitar Gosh” Armenian-Russian International University took part in the conference time this for the first time.
